Thick, Layered & Encaustic-like Abstract Painting

$375 Experience building & digging back into thick layers of transparent, translucent & opaque acrylic paints and mediums. Sanding, Etching & Removal Techniques. Embedding heavy objects. Learn how to make and apply the encaustic formula.
Prerequisites:
ADVANCED COURSE - experience in acrylics is a must
Supply List:
- Always have • Your journal and pen/pencil. • An artbin or carry case to organize and bring your materials to class • 2 plastic covered foamcore or thick cardboard 23 x 30” boards Substrate – What you paint on. For class practice pieces - to learning techniques I will teach you - I recommend the 9 x 12” canvas pads. They are pre-gessoed and ready to go. You will need to have six sheets for each class . • for 3 day workshop you’ll need: 36 canvas pad sheets • for 8 week class you’ll need: 48 canvas pad sheets Paints & Mediums – • Liquid or full body paints – bring what you have – at minimum 3 primary colours • I have and love to use some of the following colours in the Golden liquid acrylic line: o Earth/Historic: Paynes Grey, burnt umber, Naples yellow, ultramarine blue, burnt sienna o Moderns: Nickel azo yellow, quinacridone nickel azo gold, green gold, quinacridone magenta, diarylide yellow, phthalo blue (green shade), red iron oxide, transparent yellow iron oxide, quinacridone burnt orange, Dioxazine Purple & torquois (phthalo). o Metallics – silver, gold, iron. o Basics: titanium white, carbon black • Black and White Gesso • Liquid Gloss or Matte (Polymer) Medium (Liquitex /Golden/OPUS brands) • Regular Gel Medium – Golden • Soft Gel Gloss Medium – Golden Tools • Palette – a plastic plate, stay wet palette, disposable palette sheets, or butcher paper to put your paint on. • Brushes – at least 2 brushes. o various sizes acrylic flat head brushes – the hake brushes are nice o various sizes round head acrylic brushes • stepped palette knife • paper towel (must!) • 1-3 plastic containers for water. • Mister spray bottle Clothing – • Apron • gloves Might be fun to have... (optional) • Droppers • • Rubber shaper • • Stencils • Chopsticks Stamps Rubbing Alcohol (from the drugstore) Brayers • Texture tools • • Papers for collage – decorative papers, papers with text, tissue papers. • Artist Safe removal tape.
