A 'one of a kind' course: Unleash your creativity by using smooth plates and your imagination to create non-edition prints. Considered the most painterly of printmaking methods, monotypes are made by 'painting' an image onto a smooth plate and then transferring this image onto paper using the pressure of an etching press. What distinguishes the monotype from a painting are the textures and effects created by the trnasfer process and the pressure of the printing. What separates it from other printmaking processes is that it produces a one of a kind image with no possibility of edition work. The subtractive, additive and transfer methods of creating monotype will all be taught.
