Why Paint on Cotton When You Can Paint on Silk? with Maureen Walker

Join Maureen for a demonstration of her passion for the challenging fine art medium of painting with dyes on silk.

She will discuss the history and techniques of the medium and demonstrate the use of resist, creating hard/soft edges, painting wet on dry/wet on wet and using direct/indirect painting methods. There will be 3 paintings on display illustrating different silk painting techniques and one small frame of silk and a palette of dyes will be available for attendees to try silk painting for themselves.

Maureen Walker AFCA is an award winning contemporary artist and master silk painter, art educated in England and Europe, and a trained adult education teacher. She established her first Canadian studio, Pioneer Silk Studio, in 1999 and a year later she founded the Vancouver Island Silk Painters. In 2005 she was awarded her Signature status with the Federation of Canadian Artists.
