Reconnecting with Natural Dye and Printing with Clare Attwell

Join Clare as she demonstrates how textile design using some basic natural dyeing and surface design techniques is simple enough that anyone can do it.

She will show you what to consider when choosing and preparing appropriate fabrics for a project, design through immersion dyeing, and finishing off with some basic surface design with printing, stenciling and fabric painting.

Whether you use onion skins from the garden to create beautiful yellows or the exotic Cochineal insects to produce reds and rich mouves, natural dying is non-toxic to the environment, and adds another dimension to caring for the earth.

Space is limited and registration is required.
Please visit Opus Victoria or contact them at 250‑386‑8133 or toll free 1‑800‑524‑6555 to register.

Clare Attwell, B.A.(with Fine Arts); Arts Admin. Clare is a stay at home parent, textile artist and community artist. When she is not working on her own art, she works as a community artist, using the arts in imaginative ways to help community groups explore complex issues such as cultural and spiritual identity, including community visioning.

Clare is a painter, mixed media and textile artist. She produces predominantly large scale textile wall hangings, where she typically explores complex ideas that evolve out of her work with community. She is especially interested in exploring what makes complex systems functional, and in particular, how they relate to organizations and society.
