Layering Techniques in Oil: Fur & Hair with Gale Moore O’Ferrall

North Vancouver
Sun, October 15, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Learn how through layering you can achieve realistic fur and hair.

Gale will begin by demonstrating the use of a technique called "monochrome underpainting" which is obtained by means of thinning down the paints and plotting down the basis image from which to build. She will then move on to the importance of brushstrokes in achieving a sense of direction/movement in relation to the action of the subject.

Next, she will slowly build up the colour to create an almost tangible fur texture, and eventually the finished coloured piece. The objective of this lesson is to show the relationship, as well as the undeniable necessity, of layering and marrying elements and techniques to achieve a believable 3D value.

Space is limited and registration is required.
