Drawing a Portrait on Toned Paper with Justin Maas

Learn the basics of using toned paper, then become a master!

Justin will do a short intro to this demo showing how he blocks in shapes on Strathmore 400 Series Toned Tan Paper using various reference photos, and the explain how he picks the right pose or image to work from.

Justin will then spend the bulk of the time actually drawing one portrait, showing the process of rendering as well as how to ‘see past’ the photo and pick out elements that are often missed in reference shots.

Justin has a degree in Visual Communications from the Alberta College of Art & Design. He has worked full time as a fine artist and graphic designer for 20 years. He is a Signature Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists. Justin works primarily in Pastel, Graphite and Charcoal.
