Learn Steve’s process of creating large abstract oil paintings on wood cradle panels.

Steve will discuss how he uses cold wax and what different effects can be achieved with that medium on wood. Topics to be covered will include using Cold Wax for transparent glazing and opaque impasto painting.

There will also be a discussion on the difference between true transparent pigment and not, cradled panel preparation basics, glazing basics, and how fat over lean applies with cold wax.

Steve Baylis is a professional artist based in North Vancouver, Canada. He has exhibited in Canada and Europe, and his work is collected in corporate and private collections. My art is an obsession with visual perception and how it affects our body and mind. Each work is a gestalt – a carefully balanced visual whole – in focus but free and moving. Direct, blunt and confident, every painting is a complex expression of a simple thought. Each painting functions as its own world where colour has its own meaning within the context of each piece. They are an invitation to a self-contained world where one can lose oneself, bringing out the inner world of the viewer.
